Château Beaucastel Châteauneuf du Pape Vertical Tasting

Beaucastel is regarded by many as one of the top estates, if not the top estate, of Châteauneuf du Pape, in the Southern Rhône Valley. Of all the producers in the region, Beaucastel is one of the very few to plant and vinify all thirteen grape varieties permitted under Châteauneuf du Pape appellation regulations. Whereas others focus on Grenache, with a mixture of other varieties, Beaucastel uses a high proportion of Mourvèdre, matching the contribution from Grenache in the final blend. The Perrin family has owned this estate for a century, and many of the region’s advances can be traced to the family’s inspired innovations.

BIN905 recently scored some back-vintages shipped straight up from the domain’s library stock and we topped up the number of bottles with what was available within our own library stock. As a result we are able to offer this vertical tasting including 10 vintages!
In fact, if you can provide an extra vintage to complete the line-up, bring it in, we’ll buy your seat!

We will taste the following vintages:

1995-1998-1999-2000-2001-2003-2004-2005-2006-2007

The 21-Plus Club Single Malt Tasting

The world of old single malt whiskies is marked not only by rarity but by high prices as well. When a distillery has to wait for 21-plus years to recoup their investment the consumer is naturally going to pay a high price for these efforts. But is older really better? Being the oldest member of the Bin 905 team (by a longshot) I naturally feel this is the case but here is an opportunity to taste a range of well-aged whiskies to determine if the old boys really have the stuff.

We will taste the following whiskies:

The Glenrothes 1988 23-yr-old ($122)
Old Malt Cask 27-yr-old Port Ellen ($383)
Nikka 21-yr-old ($146)
Balvenie 21-yr-old Port Wood ($222)

Oyster Pairing

Due to the great success of our previous event called “BIN905’s Fabulous Oyster Pairings” on December 9th (Thanks to all who came! What a great crowd!), we decided to do it again. We’ve even worked our cost down to $60 per person (the last event sold for $75 a ticket) to make it even more accessible!

Bin905 is excited to bring back the “Oyster Pairing” AKA “the Aphrodisiaque Tasting”. We will continue to study how to describe the flavors found in Oysters and how they interact with the wines. For this new and improved version, we’ll be adding beer as a pairing (which was requested by the previous group) and Riesling, which we cherish here at Bin905. Full pairing descriptions will be announced shortly.

Each pairing is going to be served individually with the oysters professionally shucked fresh in front of you , and of course served with mignonette sauce, lemon and tabasco on the side. We will go through each pairing trying different sauce combinations and talking about the oysters, the wine, and why we choose to pair each one together.

You will be served 4 of each type of oysters, so by the end of the evening you’ll be going home informed, entertained and most importantly, satisfied. You might even consider bringing a date. Oysters are a legendary aphrodisiac so the satisfaction may not stop there…..

Here are the pairings:

Sawmill Bay Oysters paired with Domaine Pierre de la Grange, Muscadet Sèvre et Maine, Sur Lie
Reed Island Oysters paired with Norman Hardie, Prince Edward County, Chardonnay
Lambertini Oysters paired with Foreau, Vouvray, Demi-Sec
La Saint Simon Oysters paired with Dr. Crusius Rotenfelser Spatlese, Nahe
Caraquet Oysters paired with Pierre Gimonnet, Champagne, Brut
